You rule the raging of the sea;
when its waves rise, you still them
When oceans rise, thunders roar, lightning strikes and heavy rain pours non-stop, people starts to feel anxious. In this low lying city where I reside, where heavy floods seem usual, who wouldn’t be afraid? Panic comes to life when the streets were already covered with hip-high water from the heavy rain down-pour. Any minute, lives could be loss because of drowning or due to water borne communicable diseases like leptospirosis and diarrhea.
Man by nature cannot help but feel anxiety and fear during such times. If we can recall during one of the voyage of Jesus and His disciples in the sea, a strong windstorm arose and the boat was filling. The disciples were so afraid, they woke Jesus up and the Lord rebuked the wind. He commanded to the sea, “Peace! Be still. “The wind ceased and there was a great calm. The Lord said to the disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?”
A lesson we could pick-up from the story is that we just have to keep the faith. Windstorms will come one day into our life that sometimes we’ve got nothing to stop it. All we have to do is to put our trust in the Lord. Someday these storms will be calmed by the Lord. Just like what He said to the apostles, we should not be terrified.
