NO to swerving!( Proverbs 4:27)

Do not swerve to the right or to the left; turn your foot away from evil

car_swerving_road

There are some avenues in the Philippines where a certain lane is designated for each type of vehicle like private cars, buses, jeepneys, bicycles and motorcycles. More often than not, because of traffic jam, these assigned lanes are no longer followed. Some, due to impatience, swerve their way out of the right lane and go to a path that is not suitable for them. For this reason, many accidents have been reported due to clashing and many innocent lives have been ruined.

God is leading us to the right path but sometimes the stubborn us usually swerve to the wrong way. Because of that we end up facing the consequence of our wrong actions. We must use the wisdom that God has given us to determine what’s evil and what’s not.

There is no good from evil. If some are doing it for easy money and success to the extent of cheating, lying, sabotaging and even killing other people prove them that we can attain prosperity and success without submitting to evil works. We are now cleansed by the blood of Jesus, turning our backs away from wickedness is a must.

Say no to swerving. Look and take the straight road ahead towards pleasing God almighty.

Storing like an ant (Proverbs 3:9-10)

Honor the Lord with your wealth
    and with the firstfruits of all your produce;
then your barns will be filled with plenty,
and your vats will be bursting with wine

ants-on-food

I love to watch ants. They are the thriftiest and most hardworking creatures I ever had known and the friendliest too. One time, I woke up seeing so many ants lined up on the floor going to the wall near our kitchen. I bowed down to observe what they were doing. I noticed that every time the ants meet one another, they seem to kiss or shake hands or exchange greetings. I do not know exactly what they are doing because I can’t see them microscopically. One thing is certain, they never ignore one another. As I follow their route, I had found out what made them convene. Last night, I had left the rice on top of the electric stove. I forgot to put it in the refrigerator that’s why those ants used that opportunity to get food.

My elementary teacher said before that ants carry their foods even if it’s larger than them because they have to store so that when the time of rainy days arrives they have something to eat inside their shelter. These ants know where to store their nutriments. We should imitate that character.

Where is the best place to store our money? I couldn’t think of a better place than in God’s Kingdom.

Give to the needy. What is the use of having so much money if it is only you who will benefit from it? Begin to care for other persons and it could start with sharing. Sharing is caring. Imagine that when you lend cash to someone, gave food to the hungry, pay the bill of the sick, in a way it is God whom you had helped. In a way, you become the answers to their prayers.

Give to the church. Give God what is due. He is only asking for 10 %,90% will all be ours how come we still can’t do it?(I’m guilty!)Think of it as one of our duty. Be responsible enough for in the end it is us who will benefit from what we had stored.

Be a cheerful giver and you will be glad to know that God will give back a hundred fold of what you had shared.

Ignorance excuses no one (Proverbs 2:10-12)

for wisdom will come into your heart,
    and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul;
 discretion will watch over you,
    understanding will guard you,
delivering you from the way of evil,
    from men of perverted speech

ignortance

Ignorance of the law, they say, excuses no one. If in the province crossing the streets anywhere anytime is exercised, some places in the city prohibits jaywalking. If it is just alright to litter in other areas, well do not do the same thing when you go to Singapore because there is a corresponding penalty for that.

An ‘I’m sorry sir, I do not know” answer or a “Forgive me, I am not aware” response is not always valid. You have to suffer the consequences. And what could possibly be a means of way out for such incidences? But of course, the opposite of ignorance. Be knowledgeable enough. Be wise.

The environment where we live affects us so much. Some children do learn how to curse at a very young age because it is hat they always hear at home or at school. Vices, quarrels, trouble, violence seem to be normal to some. The fact that everything a child sees is right will now lead to a child mimicking what he had observed. In this case, the child is ignorant of what is right.

Notice the effects of lack of wisdom. When we lack understanding, it is so easy for us to fall and to be deceived. Sometimes we are not aware that we are already sinning because we do not know what is right or wrong.

Small Voice (Proverbs 1:33)

but whoever listens to me will dwell secure
and will be at ease, without dread of disaster

67_big

A news flash notified the viewers that a young man who was on his way to work was found dead on the railroad. According to the witnesses, the guy who was a security guard was wearing an earphone. He probably hasn’t heard of the sound of the coming train that’s why he was hit badly which had cost him his life.

When I heard of that news, I can’t help but feel pity to the young man and his family and at the same time I felt sad for the life that was wasted. Most of the time,we commit mistakes because of not listening. God uses so many ways to speak to us. He uses the Bible, pastors, our parents, teachers, friends,co-workers, etc to send His messages. It is up to us if we’ll keep our ears close or hear what He is saying but take it for granted or listen and act upon it.

Do no ignore the small voice of God.

How will we know the direction if we won’t listen to the instruction? How will we know the weather if we won’t hear it from the forecaster?

Sometimes, God’s answers to our prayers are just around us. How do we find it if we are refusing to listen? Remove your earplugs that block God’s voice and hear what He wanted to say. Open your heart. God is knocking, let him come in.

Everything that has breathe praise the Lord!(Psalm 150:6)

Let everything that has breath praise the Lord!
Praise the Lord!

Worship_1440

One of my most awaited times during Sunday Service is the praise and worship time. I am always eager to sing for the Lord even if my vocal cords and ears do not complement each other. As every eye close, hands lifted up, my lips are singing, I always feel like the moment is just between me and God. I become oblivious of my surroundings and be more focus on God. Tears would start pouring as the Holy Spirit come in power.

In my article Rocks will cry out, I had narrated about my experience witnessing how the deaf and mute worship our God. Their disabilities never become a hindrance for them to praise God, a perfect example that everything that has breathe can praise the Lord in their own ways.

There are various ways to praise our Maker aside from singing songs. We could praise Him through our actions, thoughts and deeds. If the deaf and mute can do it, why can’t we do our part? Given with the ability to speak, God had entrusted to us the duty to express admiration Him by proclaiming His works, his love and his words to those who definitely need it.

If we will not do our part, the Bible says the rocks will worship! That sounds creepy right? Do we have to wait for that time?

Fixing a brokenheart (Psalm 147:3)

He heals the brokenhearted

and binds up their wounds.

Fixing_a_Broken_Heart_by_lvcross

For three weeks I was assigned as a volunteer nurse in Perpetual Succor Hospital and Maternity’s Operating Room. Almost every day I had witnessed operations being performed usually maternity cases like Cesarean Section and Total Abdominal Hysterectomy Bilateral Oophorectomy, Explore Laparotomy, etc. To start, an incision is being made and ends with suturing. It will take few weeks to months before the wound will completely heal.

We are no vampires that when wounded, it will immediately heal. We do not have any special powers to hasten the healing process. At least once in our life we’ll get to experience on how it feels to be broken hearted perhaps from friends, family, relationship, work, etc. It takes time to mend a broken heart but one thing is certain, it can be made whole again by the Fixer, the Healer.

“Cast your burdens upon me”, God said. Doesn’t it lessen the pain when you know someone shares the weight of it? And God will heal all wounds in due time. In my 22 years of existence, I haven’t seen yet a fresh wound that remained fresh still up to now. Same with our wounded hearts, it will be fixed one day. Just learn to trust and have faith to the Healer.

Talking to the Great Shepherd

Anytime, Anywhere (Psalm 145:18)

The Lord is near to all who call on him,
to all who call on him in truth.

pray anywhere

Most individuals of today do have their own cellular phones if not one probably two or three. Even kids are well knowledgeable on how to operate that device. But imagine life without technology, imagine life few centuries ago.

According to the written stories of our great ancestors and based from researches of historians, communication was never easy way back. They have to have faith that the other party would receive their letter by sending many bottles with a letter inside of it. As time passed by, inventions were made to make communication much easier.

There may be communication barriers from one place to another but one thing is for sure when it comes to God whether it was centuries ago or at present time, we can call to Him anytime, anywhere.

We do not need to go to church every time we wanted to pray but do not get me wrong, we must attend church regularly of course!. Wherever we are, we can utter our please to Him, at work, at school, while on a trip, etc.

God looks at the heart. I believe it please Him more to see us praying silently in the office than being in the church with worldly thoughts in our minds.

God doesn’t have any standards when it comes to praying so we must grab this opportunity to talk to the King of kings.

There is no specific place that makes us nearer to God than where we are right now.

The way to God’s will (Psalm 143:10)

Teach me to do your will,
    for you are my God!
Let your good Spirit lead me
    on level ground!

image003

The more we seek the Lord, the closer He is to us, the more we’ll know His will, the more we’ll know the right thing to do according to that will.

Life is full of crossroads. There are so many choices along the way. How do we know if the answer to our questions is A not B or C? To know the best answer, here is what we should do.

Romans 12:2 states,”Do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect”. We must:

  • Surrender our will to God, not everything that we want is what God wants too;
  • Choose what is right and pleasing in the eyes of God, the road may be hard and risky but when you reach your destination the joy would be incomparable.
  • Make the Bible your best friend. It is the Word of God that will lead us to the right path. His words are lamp unto our feet and light unto our path (Psalm 119:105). Never let a day pass without talking to the Father.
  • Be guided by the Holy Spirit, if it is convicting you then you know what is the right thing to do
  • Seek for pastors’ and ministers’ advices. They have been gifted with Godly wisdom; never will they let you enter the wrong road.

Despite the rocky and steeply road we are trekking, learn to trust God. Be obedient to his words. Above all these, He has a great plan stored for us and a great future lies ahead of us.

Guard my tongue (Psalm 141:3)

Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth;
keep watch over the door of my lips!

zip

Zip your lips. If this could be possible literally, this world could have been a better place.

Our tongue was created for worshiping, praising and for spreading the Word of God. Instead of speaking-up and being a witness for Jesus, lying tongue, flattering tongue, proud tongue, cursing tongue and silent tongue exist. Our lips were made for food intake, articulation and facial expression. It was given to us to share a smile and not to frown on enemies.

We must be careful to every word that comes out our mouth. Hurtful words are like sharp swords that slices the heart. Many had been used to cursing. I’ve even witness a kid uttering a curse not knowing what the words meant. Some cannot live a day without saying bad words as if it’s their breakfast, lunch and dinner. God is not pleased with it. We should use our mouth according to its purpose.

Having the ability to speak is a blessing. There are some who were not able to communicate through words. With this reason, we should watch what we are saying. If zipping our mouth is one of our greatest challenges that is hard to control, offer it to God. Let Him control us, let Him guard our mouth and watch our lips. Pray continually and be closer to God to become more like Him. Only good words should come out our mouth. Brush away halitosis that poisons the spirit.
