How to spare our hearts from brokenness? (Song of Solomon 2:7)

I adjure you, O daughters of Jerusalem,
by the gazelles or the does of the field,
that you not stir up or awaken love
    until it pleases.

Patience is a virtue. The reason why a lot of good opportunities had slipped in our hands is because we do not practice the habit of waiting.

Do not awaken love until it pleases. Bear in mind the possible consequences of engaging into a relationship at an early age. Out of curiosity, peer pressure, loneliness and because you don’t want to be left behind since all your classmates or workmates have girlfriends/boyfriends, you enter a relationship with a wrong person for the wrong reason. Most of the relationships that were born out of such conditions are almost always short lived. God has something better for you. Why risk the possibility of heartbreak just because you are in a haste to be with someone?

“A woman’s heart should be so hidden in God that a man has to seek Him first just to find her.” If God knows that we are ready to commit, He will reveal the right person at the right circumstance. We can spare our hearts from broken relationships if we only listen to what God is saying.

While waiting for love to be awakened from a deep slumber, focus on God. Use this opportunity of being single to devote more of our time to our Creator. He knows what is in our hearts and one day He will grant the desires of it.

If we want to receive and achieve what is best, we should strive to learn the art of waiting.

The Duties of Man (Ecclesiastes 12:13)

The end of the matter; all has been heard. Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man

The greatest love of all is the love that had overcame the cross just to find our soul. For all the sacrifices that our Lord has done, He deserves our whole life. He deserves the highest glory, honor and praise.

Obedience is the name of the game. We were created by our Maker to follow Him. His commandments can be sum up into two and that is to love God and to love our fellowmen.

Our life would be worthless if the only reason why we are living are our selfish motives. If our daily aim is to earn and buy the things we wanted, then it is the time to make a change. Touch the lives of other people. As Christians, we must be the role models for the next generation. Leave a good deed, a good memory and a good example that the next kin would imitate. We must widen our horizon. Do volunteer works. Join ministries. Participate in bloodletting, fun runs and other activities that could help the deprived. It means a lot to our friends in need.

Above all, we shouldn’t forget our duty to God. Read your Bible, pray every day, go to church regularly, give tithes and offering and share the good news to others. This is just a small thing compared to what our lord God has done.

Freedom and Responsibility (Ecclesiastes 11:9)

Rejoice, O young man, in your youth, and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth. Walk in the ways of your heart and the sight of your eyes. But know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment

For a creator, God tops them all for giving us free will. Robots for example are being manipulated, it has no choice but to obey what his inventor wants it to do while humans do what they wanted. We are given option to obey God or not. Although God wants us to follow His words, he allowed humans to have a choice and He did not mandatorily forced his creations to go with his will. We are free to enjoy life the way we want it but we must be aware of the possible consequences we might encounter in the future.

When it comes to age bracket, it is the youth that are most free-spirited. This is the stage of life where they want to explore life. They want to try new things to satisfy their curiosity. They follow what is in the fad. They wanted to be called “IN” and not left behind. One day they will just wake up regretting what they had done. If only they used their money to something that is worth it, if only they did not drink or smoke to death, if only they did not engage in promiscuous sexual relationships, if only they did try to escape premarital sex, if only they did spend more time with God and their family.

Be mindful of what God says. Enjoy life but be responsible enough. Real happiness cannot be found with what this world introduces as it is—money, vices, parties, etc. Freedom has its corresponding responsibility. Live life the way God wants you to not the way the devil tempts you to.

We are all old enough to distinguish what is right from wrong. Use your mind plus the Holy Spirit’s conviction to guide us in which way to go.

Keep calm and move on (Ecclesiastes 10:4)

If the anger of the ruler rises against you, do not leave your place,
for calmness will lay great offenses to rest

Our day to day activities seems just the same yesterday because of routine things we do. Every day in school or at work feels ordinary. Do you want to make your day extraordinary? Then stay calm despite the raging negative emotions surrounding you from your bosses, co-workers or teachers and classmates. Because of too much pressure at work and stress plus family problems, there are people who cannot control their feelings that sometimes the outburst of their anger will be thrown to you. Of course who would not be hurt if that case happens? We are only humans not robots. We have feelings. The fact that somebody shouted at us, curse or call us names, embarrass us in front of people will definitely wound your heart and break it into pieces. Will you still be able to stay calm and be extraordinary?

These negative emotions could be compared to a trash. It is up to you if you are going to catch that trash and let it destroy your day. Life is too precious to be spent with unworthy things. Do not let hatred, anger and vengeance cloud your heart and soul. Always think that there is always a reason behind a change in somebody’s mood and it just so happened that you are the available person to witness it and become its point of exit. Let the words enter your right ear and leave through your left auricle. Do not let it go deep in your core. Keep calm and move on. Tomorrow’s going to be a good day for you. Do not pick up the trashes that somebody else throws at you. Inhale good vibes and exhale negative vibrations.

Uncertain Life (Ecclesiastes 9:12)

For man does not know his time. Like fish that are taken in an evil net, and like birds that are caught in a snare, so the children of man are snared at an evil time, when it suddenly falls upon them

My early childhood days were spent in a place far from traffic jams and high technologies. Nevertheless, it was so enjoyable because people were contented with what they have. Our house was surrounded by fruit bearing trees and there were piggeries and fish ponds. With my uncles and brothers, we frequently cached fishes. We dig the earth to find earthworms that will serve as an object to tempt the fish into the bait. It took hours for me before I got one yet I was so happy. That was a simple childhood yet for me it was blissful.

Let’s talk about fishing. It was compared in Ecclesiastes that evil times come to man the way a fish is caught. The fish wouldn’t know that’s going to be the end of its life. Who would thought that eating an earthworm would be the death of you?

Unexpectedly, we experience evil times which could ruin our life and some had even succumb to death because of it. Crimes like rape, robbery, kidnapping and murder are some instances that had ruined life ever since. These had taken innocent lives and many families were left devastated and still cannot move on.

I for one had been a victim of burglars when our apartment was ransacked years way back. In such situations, we don’t have a choice but to call unto God. No matter what the result of the evil circumstance, God has a purpose for allowing it and He will let us surpass every trial.
Life is so fragile, it is extremely uncertain.
Knowing for a fact that we do not know when our time will be, there is one thing that we should all be certain of and that is if we are already saved. There are only two places where we will go after death—in Heaven or in hell. And it is not enough that we are saved, how about the others? Let us be an instrument that many will also experience Salvation.

Trouble.Trouble(Ecclesiastes 8:6)

For there is a time and a way for everything, although man’s trouble lies heavy on him.

People love to play the blaming game. It was never our fault, it was always somebody’s fault. You failed the exam and you put the blame on your professor and say he wasn’t able to explain the topic well when in fact you were too busy to listen to him and too lazy to scan your notes. You had gotten pregnant early and you blame your parents because you say it’s one way of your rebellion for their lack of attention and trust when the truth is you were a curious cat and wanted to try what the fad is all about. And so on and so forth.

Know what this world could have been a better place if we only did obey what God was saying. We are Earth’s caretakers yet we are also its destructors. How blessed are those who lived ages ago when the air was still fresh, waters were still pure, foods were not preserved, no traffic jams and no pollutions. The reason why there is too much trouble is because we take this world for granted. The culpability should be put in us.

Sometime soon, this world including us will fade away, there is a time for that. But we should not hasten that time to come by wasting our time doing unnecessary things and unwise decisions. Take it from my father who said, “It is such a waste to lose our life just because of engaging to things that are not even worth our life.”

stop pollution save earth
