Real motives (Isaiah 29:13-14)

13  And the Lord said:

“Because this people draw near with their mouth

and honor me with their lips,

while their hearts are far from me,

and their fear of me is a commandment taught by men,

14  therefore, behold, I will again

do wonderful things with this people,

with wonder upon wonder;

and the wisdom of their wise men shall perish,

and the discernment of their discerning men shall be hidden.”

We may deceive other persons but one thing is for sure, we can never deceive God. Some people are good in hiding their motives, real feelings, emotions and thoughts. You never know whom you are dealing with has something against you at the back of his or her mind.

Ever heard of people who are angels during Sundays and evils during the rest of the week? These includes those who give only a day to the Lord and the remaining days to the flesh. These are the people who are like plastics, they go to church just for attendance yet after the service, the words spoken by the preacher diminishes like a smoke. Are we one of those? Are we more concerned of what other people say and what pleases them that what God wants?

God looks at the heart. He knows our motives. He knows our hidden desires. If we are doing good things just to please the world and just to be recognized, we should assess ourselves. Our main priority should be to please God, worship and serve Him by heart.
