What Not and What to Brag (Jeremiah 9:23-24)

Let not the wise boast of their wisdom
or the strong boast of their strength
or the rich boast of their riches,
but let the one who boasts boast about this:
that they have the understanding to know me,
that I am the Lord, who exercises kindness,
    justice and righteousness on earth,
    for in these I delight,”
declares the Lord.

Two of my most admired stories in the Bible are the stories of King Solomon and King David. These two royalties became famous—King Solomon for his wisdom and wealth and King David’s valiancy and mightiness in fighting the giant. Never did they boast about it. Because God was with them, they were blessed abundantly. It was their strong faith in God that pleased the Father although sometime in their life, they disobeyed God because of women.

Humble yourself for the reality actually is we do not own anything. All that we are are all that we have. We are all from God. Even if you own a whole country, you attained the highest degree, you are the mightiest of the mighty, if God is not in your heart you are nothing. What if one day your health deteriorates? Money and fame can do nothing if the Lord says you have to go now.

Instead of boasting what we have to become popular, why not use it for God’s glory? Let us use the wisdom He gave us to spread His words to those who are not yet in Christ Let us use our resources to help the needy and share what we have to the poor instead of buying expensive things. Let us use our strength in volunteering to any activities of the church that will save souls. Let us use our financial, physical and mental gifts for God’s glory and not for own sake.
