Junior Shepherds (Jeremiah 23:4)

I will set shepherds over them who will care for them, and they shall fear no more, nor be dismayed, neither shall any be missing, declares the LORD.

Shepherds are persons who look after, care, feed or guard flocks of sheep. For our country is a tropical place and for other reasons too, there are only few sheep existing here and mostly are located in the zoos, which are all imported. I haven’t witness in person yet a shepherd leading a flock of sheep in the grassland but I have seen a person who pastors wild ducks in the river which is usual in our province. These two animals may have different characteristics yet one thing certain is that they do follow where the shepherd will lead them.

Jesus is the shepherd of our soul but unlike 2000 years ago, we cannot talk to Him in person since He had already went back to His kingdom in heaven. For that reason, aside from praying and reading His words, He had assigned junior shepherds to lead us along the way. In my humble opinion, pastors and the elders of the church are those shepherds whom God had set to care for the church and its congregation. We seek their advices about various situations because we know for a fact that they had more knowledge regarding God’s words. They are the ones who imparts good behavior and righteous deeds to us and they correct us when we are wrong.

For God had given us our beloved junior shepherds. We should give them what is due. Let us pray always for them and follow what they preach. In that way we wouldn’t be misled and we are glorifying God for respecting and believing in His appointed ones.
