Therefore say to the house of Israel, Thus says the Lord GOD: Repent and turn away from your idols, and turn away your faces from all your abominations.
The wisest and one of the richest kings of all time is King Solomon but his downfall started when he commenced serving other gods aside from our Lord. His wives served different gods and instead of them serving his god, it was the other way around. It was King Solomon who worshipped many idols.
We might say, “I’m not like King Solomon. I only have one God.” Yet be aware that anything that snatches away our attention to God or anything that we give much importance more than God is considered to be an idol.
When I was young, I was an avid fan of Korean actors/actresses. I told my mom, “She’s my idol” pertaining to a famous celebrity while we were watching. She corrected me and said that man shouldn’t be called an idol for there is only one idol and that is God. From then on, I never used the term to any person. I just say, I am a fan.
Sometimes we are not aware that we are already having other idols. Anime, computer games, facebook, twitter, movies, books, work are just a few of it. Devoting too much time to it could take away our time that is supposed to be is allocated for God. Because of too much addiction to the internet, I believe there were days we weren’t able to read our Bible for the reason that we are busy browsing our Facebook, playing games, stalking your crush, etc.
Assess yourselves. Are we putting God behind? Are we giving more time to our extracurricular activities? If YES, then it is time for us to change our habit. God should be the center, He should be our focus. Let us repent now and turn away from all our addictions. Learn to put God first and everything will follow. Learn to place other idols to where they should belong. Only God alone deserves much time, much effort, much attention. Never let a day go by without feeding your spirit with His words for He is the Bread of Life.
