Overcoming the Flesh

But the Lord is faithful. He will establish you and guard you against the evil one.

2 Thessalonians 3:3

Life brings us various types of difficulties, of different levels. Some are hard to solve while some only take time. For instance, addiction. When a person is addicted, may it be to computer games, to pornography, to eating, selfies, etc., there is the willingness to quit but the force of temptation is so strong. At the end of the day, the person will succumb to the will of the flesh. Another example is the problems we face in every step of the way. There are times when the enemy will discourage you. People will throw negative comments about you and your situation. And if you are weak, you might believe them.

Temptation comes from the flesh of man. As long as a man is in the flesh. There is the presence of temptation to sin. The spirit must be allowed to overcome the flesh. So, when we are tempted to surrender to our addiction, we know now what to do. We must allow the Spirit of Christ within us to be our Lord and guide us in everything. The Spirit will overcome the flesh and keep us from evil.

There are many who do not have faith in the Lord. These are people who speak what is opposed to the word of God. Be still. God is keeping His promises for He is faithful. When you have a problem, pray! God will guard you against the evil one. Choose wisely to whom you will voice out your concern because if you confess it with the wrong person, you might be doomed to something worse than your problem.

Heal the world

Hear the word of the Lord, O children of Israel,
    for the Lord has a controversy with the inhabitants of the land.
There is no faithfulness or steadfast love,
    and no knowledge of God in the land;
 there is swearing, lying, murder, stealing, and committing adultery;
    they break all bounds, and bloodshed follows bloodshed.

(Hosea 4: 1-2)

Look around and you will see the worldliness of the inhabitants, individuals’ morals has been polluted. Listen and you will hear curses and swearing. Bad words had become a very usual language to some. Your senses will tell you that the world is now changing not for the good but for the worse.

If I had created something, for instance, a work of art like a scrapbook, I would take care of it for life. I would look at it every now and then and be proud that I have made something beautiful. Something close to my heart, a remembrance of my past. Now if one day this piece of art had been destroyed, I think I would freak out. That person who dared to ruin my work will get what he deserves. I bet if on the same case you would also react as mine, am I right?

Earth has now been ruined and this is the reality. God had made it so wonderful when he created it. Body of waters were all fresh and clear, various animals were abundant and free, the air is void of pollutants. People are disciplined, morals were intact and most of all, they were God fearing. However, see what had happened after generation to generation. People who were assigned to take care of nature had become its detractors. The air and water had been polluted. Mountains are now denuded. Many animals had been proclaimed endangered. Humans had lost their morals and they become disobedient and disrespectful to God. Do people still know that there is God? And if they do, is God being obeyed?

“Heal the world and make it a better place,” says a famous song. It is never too late for us Christians to move and that includes concern to people and to nature. Do not go with the flow of this world for you will be misled. Go to where God leads you. Be a change advocate for the better.

The Culprit (Lamentations 5:15-16)

The joy of our heart is ceased; our dance is turned into mourning.

The crown is fallen from our head: woe unto us, that we have sinned!

retrieved from

Have you ever felt that God seem so far? You pray every day yet it seems that God is not listening? Sin could be the culprit. It hinders our relationship with Him. It is the barrier that separates us from God.

Do not trade short term happiness to long term suffering. What is the reason why Adam and Eve were thrown out of the Garden of Eden? Why was God angry when the Israelites made and worshiped the golden calf? Why did David’s son died? The reason behind is sin. They had sinned and they were punished. Their joy had been turned into mourning.

But all have sinned and no one is righteous, you might say. That is right, that’s why Christ was sent from heaven to save us because we are all sinners. Yet, once we have accepted Him as our Lord and Savior and we are already cleansed by the Spirit, God sees us as pure individuals. For that reason, we should sin no more. Though there will be times that we commit one, repent immediately. Ask for God’s forgiveness and be cleansed then continue to walk in Spirit.

Choose to attain true joy by doing things righteously than mourn in eternity because you had sinned and hadn’t confessed or because you had already knew Jesus’ existence yet you hesitated to surrender your Life to Him.

Worry free (Jeremiah 51:15-16)

15 “It is he who made the earth by his power,
    who established the world by his wisdom,
and by his understanding stretched out the heavens.
16 When he utters his voice there is a tumult of waters in the heavens,
    and he makes the mist rise from the ends of the earth.
He makes lightning for the rain,
    and he brings forth the wind from his storehouses.

There is no need for us to worry about our life. The verse above just shows how powerful our great God is and because we are His children, know for a fact that HHHe wouldn’t leave our side. He can make impossible things to happen. He can command mountains to move from here to there. Therefore, how hard our trials in life may be would never ruin the truth that our God is greater.

He had established this world years ago. He made everything from nothing! This means God can provide our needs. We just have to ask Him. He has an infinite wisdom that no man can fathom, whatever the plans He has for us, the thing is, it is what’s best for us! Whatever we are going through are processes that He made for us to become better. He can do anything.

If God is the greatest, who can be against Him? Here is the thing, If God is with us, who can be against us? We were created to enjoy life to its fullest. To many, this fact may seem hard to reach but if the center of our life is God and we continually obey His words, life would indeed be worth living.Be worry free!

Fear not! (Jeremiah 46:28)

Fear not, O Jacob my servant, declares the LORD, for I am with you. I will make a full end of all the nations to which I have driven you, but of you I will not make a full end. I will discipline you in just measure, and I will by no means leave you unpunished.

Too many calamities had struck this world. Many lives were lost. Many properties were devastated. Yet we are still here standing strong despite the tough situations.

“Fear not!” God said, for we have a Savior. He gives what is due. Sometimes the reason why these calamities happen is because of our carelessness. Nature just returns what we give to it. For instance, due to our wrong ways of throwing garbage, these trashes enter drainages and impede the good flow of water. When strong rains come, the drainage can no longer hold too much water because of the trashes that had lodged there. Water will not be absorbed easily thus, flood occurs. Trashes could be seen floating anywhere and when the flood subsides, the area look like a dumpsite. Such a mess!

Know for a fact that we are being disciplined because of our actions. It is not a natural occurrence that should always be blamed because we have a fault too. But, God said that He will discipline us in just measure. If we are being echo friendly, therefore we should not fear. All illegal actions of our fellowmen that poses a threat should be reported and corrected so that they too may be spared from punishment.

This does not only refer to calamities but also with life’s trials and problems. If we are being disciplined, fear not for the Lord is with us. He will protect us along the way. We just have to follow His lead.

Nonstop questions (Jeremiah 33:3)

‘Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.’

retrieved from

We might be sick and tired sometimes of answering terrible toddlers’ questions about why is this, why is that. They ask nonstop of things that we few times do not know the right answer or giving them answers won’t be appropriate as of the moment. But we are not aware that when we talk to God, we deal the same way as these kids.

Because we want to know the reason behind everything, we always wanted answers to our questions. Due to our curiosity and desire for wisdom, there are times when we seek the wrong persons. For instance, a girl who broke up with her boyfriend consults her friend who is NBSB (No Boyfriend Since Birth) for advices. If I were that girl, why would I ask someone who hasn’t even experienced how to be in a relationship? It is much better to seek help from your parents or elders of the church who have gone into such situation and listen to their counseling.

When it comes to life, there is no better person to answer our questions than God for He knows everything. How do we know God’s answers? Read His words, spend time meditating and reading the Bible, attend church services and listen to the Pastor’s preaching. Other ways of God to talk to us is through instruments like our parents, siblings, friends and relatives. Just be sure that it is God’s message you are following and not the wrong advice of others. You will be lead and convicted by the Holy Spirit, believe me.

Call to God by praying and spill out all your questions. He hears everything we say and at the right time, He is going to answer. Ask for enlightenment, you might not be aware, the answer might already be in front of you.

Flavors of Life (Jeremiah 31:13)

Then young women will dance and be glad,
    young men and old as well.
I will turn their mourning into gladness;
    I will give them comfort and joy instead of sorrow.

Life has its flavors. Sometimes it is as dark as a rocky road chocolate, at times it is as clean and peaceful as vanilla ice cream, Life has various weathers too. It can be windy, stormy or sunny. Without variety, our existence would be so boring and plain.

We are encountering different life flavors as of the moment. Some are on the verge of success, some are still on the way to fulfilling their dreams while others are facing the bitterness of failure and are at the lowest point this time. The verse above is for those who are experiencing the latter.

Most of the people who became successful are those who failed and were rejected. Most of those who prospered in life are those self-made persons who were once paupers. Most of the strongest persons are those who had encountered many problems in life. These people who are on the lowest moment of their life draw closer to God more than those whose life is almost perfect. Their tough experiences would mould them to become better, stronger and wiser. For God will give us any trial that we cannot handle, we should always be optimistic and believe His words. He said, “There may be pain in the night but joy comes in the morning”. Hardships will never stay permanent. One day, difficulties will vanish and bliss will come to the picture.
